We would like to clarify the discussions, and ultimately confusion, around the VentureBeat article posted on the forum this past weekend. The article was based on a transcript from an industry event that discussed the “future of game economies.” A Scopely executive attended this event, and outlined his personal opinions and potential scenarios of what could be done in the future of gaming.
More specifically, the comments made do not represent how Scopely operates any of our games, including The Walking Dead: Road to Survival.
Since the article was published, we have heard specific concerns that we decrease player odds based on past spending behavior or display different odds for different players. This is not true.
To clarify what has been discussed in the forum, we want to emphasize:
- Purchase experiences in our game are the same for all players and we do not have different odds for different players.
- Odds in Premier Recruits and all other odds-based experiences are the same for all players.
- We do not decrease player odds based on past spending behavior, age, engagement or any other behaviors.
Any comments that might indicate otherwise are inaccurate.
We would also like to use this opportunity to provide some context on how we think about the variety of purchase options available in our game and how we build experiences to make The Walking Dead: Road to Survival accessible to players of different playstyles and ages.
As many of you will know, we make certain offers available to some players and not others. Typically this is done in order to support new players and to provide more relevant content for experienced players. More broadly we attempt to create compelling experiences and purchase opportunities for all of our players who are at different stages of the game or who play the game differently. This is a very common practice in gaming.
For example, a new player might receive a $9.99 offer with world energy and trainers while a player who has been playing our game for a while might at the same time receive a $9.99 offer for war energy and gear. This is because new players are typically focused on beating stages in the world map, while older players might be focused on getting ready for that weekend’s War.
We appreciate the time to allow us to research the article raised and, as always, we thank you for the passion and commitment from our Community. Our goal remains; to make your game the best experience possible with your help, input, and engagement.
