It seems that some of you are having the issue that the arenas will become locked when upgrading to the latest version of the game. I have informed the game team about it.

Because its fog of war, its there so you have no idea how much you need to burn to catch up. Intended feature

And here I was getting all happy that they removed this cluster fuck of a event, I guess deep down I really knew it was incompetence.
